Pottsville South Caravan Park

This park has it all. It’s small. Its been totally renovated. and its clean as a whistle. Its in a position. right near the village and on the Mooball Creek (which is more like a river) There are waterfront sites (which we missed out on because we didn’t book in advance) but all sites are ok. We chose site 36 right at the gate because it had shade and no one on one side. It was private (sort of) This CP has lovely camping sites and great camp kitchens. It truly is special. We are planning to go back. We are off to Aussie Road Crew with Beccy Cole next year so this is a place we will stay when we head up the coast.

We rate this park 8.5/10

Evans Head Reflections CP

There is two parts to this CP. One section is dog friendly and the other has a huge fence around it, We were fenced in. Was not keen on that. If we go back I’d stay on the dog friendly side.

The good bits? The shops are close and the IGA is terrific. Nice pub at the gate of the park. Good coffee at ‘Evans To Betsy’ Cafe. A nice walk around to the inlet across the bridge.

The only just ok bits. The park needs a refurb and the sites are small.

We rate this park 6/10

Inverell Caravan Park- Inverell

This park is on the Gwyder Highway as you head out of Inverell. It is walking distance to everything and is right beside the Macintyre River.

The park is small (which we prefer) very well maintained and amenities are super clean and modern. Jayne was impressed. ( I don’t go into them)

The ‘Dump Point’ was unique - but it worked. Most sites are slabs - which we also prefer, and there is a lovely pool for guests use only. (no permanents here)

The managers are lovely and welcoming.

Only negative was that it was a bit noisy from traffic throughout the day - it did quieten after about 7pm, so sleeping was not a problem. We would use this CP again if we ever travel to Inverell again.

We rated this park 7.5/10

John Oxley CP Coonabarabran

The John Oxley is on the Newell Highway in Coona. It’s an easy walk into town where there is a woolies etc,. However its on the highway and it is very noisy through the day and early evening. The traffic does ease later and you can get some sleep.

The amenities are old but clean. There are very few slabs. so grass it is.

Generally it was OK because of the convenience. We were heading to Inverell via the Newell so it was terrific in that department.

All in all we scored it a 6/10

Forbes - Riverside Tourist Park

This was a real surprise for us. A hidden gem.

We thought we would stay for one night but are staying for 3. The park is small and as it’s name suggests, it is nestled beside the Lachlan River. The sites are grassy and the park is surrounded by glorious trees that appear to be keeping we travelers safe from the elements. There is something very calming about this place that I can’t explain, but I can certainly feel. Jayne is also impressed so we are both enjoying the space.

The park has older amenities - but they are clean. Its quiet both day and night. The sites are huge for a small park and the Camp Kitchen has everything you might need.

Jayne and rate this park 8/10, It really is a little gem.

NSW Trip 2020 - Covid Camping! JUGIONG - First stop.

Jugiong Free-camp - Jugiong Showground.

Jugiong is just off the Hume Highway between Goulbourn and Gundagai. We chose this spot as we had seen it from a distance and I had read about it on a few Free-camping sites.

It was ok, but not really our style.. Grass existed but not well maintained. Very dusty, which is a bit of a problem for us. Its free however they do request a donation - which we have no problem with. You can access water and there is a dump site so pretty much all you need.

The Sir George Hotel is really the only really bright light in the town. Lovely spot and nice food. Worth a visit for the pub.

Probably won’t visit again but it was an experience.

Rate the camp 5/10 but the pub 7/10

Torquay Beachfront Caravan Park Hervey Bay

Well we thought we loved Airlie..and we do but Hervey Bay is also brilliant.

This park is in need of some work but the position is magic. RIGHT on the Bay. Soft rolling waves, lovely sandy bay, close to shops and pubs etc.

The position of this park is really perfect. We had a beachfront spot and really loved that. Being that close to the beach we were able to take the frisbee down and PLAY!!!! Great fun here.

Amenities are oldish but lovely. Staff great. Position superb.

Recommend this.

We rate this park 8.5/10 Whimsys

Marlborough Hotel Camping Area

$10 for two people. Includes showers and toilet and access to a pub and restaurant. This is NOT classy but its unique. Top spot to camp as it was quiet and clean and grassy. Its in the middle of NOWHERE!!!

Pub food ok. Travellers Wall a hoot to read.

For the money it was tops! Would recommend for the experience.

We rate this camp 7/10 Whimsys

Townsville Big 4 Caravan Park

Not keen on Townsville I am afraid. Had to stay here to catch up on washing, hair cuts, nails etc.

The park is way out of Townsville itself and there are roadworks right out front. We had left it a little late arriving and this was all we could get!

The park is in the middle of a dodgy suburb hence high fences and electronic gates!

Not keen. Staff really ordinary and sites small. Amenities ok.

We rate this park 5/10 Whimsys

Banka Banka Station

This is also a cross between free camping and a park. Its in the middle of nowhere!!!!!

Only $20 for a night with water but no electricity. Staff great and amenities fine.

This is a cattle station that has diversified to make money and they do really well. It was packed.

We love  staying in these different spots it really ads a different dimension to travel. Plus some parks charge ridiculous rates so finding these inexpensive options helps the stretched budget.

There is a restaurant and bar here - we did not try it, but its available.

We rate this 8/10 Whimsys due to its value and difference

Pussy Cat Flats

This is a really unique park/camp ground. Its an ex racecourse. You pay only $24 a night and you get electricity only.

There is a bar and restaurant (real home cooking) and its very communal. We really liked it here as it was a cross between free camping and staying at a park.

The amenities are fine but I went to the old ones by mistake!!! a tin shed with lots of spiderwebs and holes in the walls....but the  water was warm so who cares!!

Terrific night here.

We rate this 8/10 Whimsys just for the ambience.

Howard Springs Big 4

Howard Springs is 23 klms out of Darwin. This park was recommended to us. We SHOULD NOT HAVE STAYED HERE.

The park is next to a wetlands and the mossies were really bad. We originally were going to stay 3 nights but we went searching for somewhere else closer to Darwin the next day.

We just weren't keen on this place

We rate this park 5/10 Whimsys

Big 4 Katherine

This is a really pretty park. Staff are ok. Amenities are really good and modern.

This park is way out of town so it suited us just to stay for a night on the way to Darwin.

They have a nice pool.

They have a restaurant that someone gave a rap so we tried it - DONT BOTHER!! Everything was frozen and reheated. They advertised what I chose as a home cooked curry. Yeah well it may have been home cooked originally but it had been frozen and re heated. Those of you who cook know what re heated ex frozen chicken curry tastes like. I might eat my own at a pinch but i'm not real keen on paying for it!
