Lake Argyle Resort

This park is the ants pants and the cats pyjamas. We loved it here. Grassy sites, great infinity pool, bar, restaurant and its on the beautiful Lake Argyle.

Staff are great. Friendly and professional.

Amenities are only ok though.

Tours of the lake start here so it just easy!

We would recommend this park and this experience to anyone. Plus the Sunset cruise is a must.

I have waxed lyrical about the park in the other section so wont go on - just look at the pics!

We rate this park 8/10 Whimsys

KimberleyLand Holiday Park Kununnurra

We loved it here; It was way too hot, but we loved it anyway. Great park, top spot just opposite a pub (with great food) their own resident freshwater croc, great amenities, lots of shade and grass but still a bit too much dust for Jaynes' liking. Their roads are not sealed like some of the better parks.

They have a wonderful pool and pool area that we used every day.

Staff are brilliant and helpful with tours etc.

The temps here were 26 to 38. Yes that was 26 as the minimum overnight! Phew!

However the temp was not their fault. BUT we would come back in early July rather than early June/late May

We rate this park 7.5/10 Whimsys. Yes we would return!

Roebuck Bay Caravan Park, Broome

TOP Position. On Broomes' Town Beach. We would stay here again as long as we had beach front again.

Amenities are really old and yukky. They need to be bulldozed.

Lots of dirt and little grass. It is evidently a Council Caravan Park and it looks like it. It is in walking distance to Broomes' Town Centre and China Town. BUT all this is soo run down. The park does have a really lovely café on site and that's a bonus.

We think the position of the park almost??? makes up for its other shortcomings.

We rate this park 5/10 Whimsys

Peoples Park, Coral Bay

This park is in the best position in Coral Bay. There are only two parks but this is definitely the best and worth paying for the views of Ningaloo Reef. It is right opposite the beach where you can walk across the road and snorkel the reef. TOPS.

The water is non existent re through the taps so you have to carry water and fill up your tanks. However that water is drinkable and FREE.

The amenities are ordinary, the dust is horrid when windy and it is a windy spot generally I believe.

The parks is next to a convenience store, tour shop and restaurant. Great.

A nice new Tavern is only a two minute walk away. Basically everything in Coral Bay is two minutes away.

The park needs an upgrade but great position.

We rate it 7.5/10 Whimsys

Monkey Mia Resort and Caravan Park

Top spot in a Marine Park just east of Denham WA. Really lovely resort but it had been recently damaged by the edges of the latest Cyclone in WA. Our site had been flooded with deep gouges running through it however it was ok because it was a huge site. The sites are all dirt/sand.

Great views and beautiful water views. Swimming is great here.

The amenities are too small and there are too few of them.

Customer service was ok.

Lots to do here with a lovely pool area, lots of activities/tour options, really nice bar and restaurant. All resort amenities are available to the caravan park tenants.

The price is a bit rich almost double the price of most parks per site @ $69 a night. Hence we stayed only three nights.

We rate this park 7/10 Whimsys

Kalbarri. Murchison River Caravan Park

Seriously??? Why we pay for really awful amenities Ill never know. We were back to the shared system and i'm sorry I just don't like it. Do I want to walk into a toilet after a bloke has been there who has had a big night on the turps and who is suffering from some gut complaint?? It ain't pretty and I DONT WANT TO PAY FOR IT!!!!

This park is in a lovely spot, but it is run down. The staff were friendly and helpful. I can see that 15 years ago it may have been lovely.

We rate this park 4/10 Whimsys

Central Caravan Park, Perth

Excellent spot just 7klms from Perth CBD. Bus route to CBD just outside that runs every 10 minutes. Really great public transport in Perth.

Amenities ok. Park is pretty with grass and concrete sites. Staff helpful.

All round nice spot with good walks just out the gate.

We rate this park 7.5/10 Whimsys

Dongara Denison Beach Holiday Park

Arrived today and LOOOOOOVE this place. Its a small park with NO permanents. Staff great, position magnificent right on the beach near the ports new marina.

We are close to shops and restaurants, within a 5 minute stroll. The amenities are lovely and modern and clean. Grass, grass everywhere!!!

Plus, we have a view from Whimsy of the sunset over the Indian Ocean. Noice. see gallery.

Its a really well loved park in a great position. Would recommend it.

We rate it 8/10 Whimsys so far!

Jurien Bay Tourist Park

How do I start?? Jayne hated this joint, but I was ok with it.

Jurien Bay is absolutely beautiful and I would recommend a visit but the Caravan Park needs a facelift and some GRASS!!!.

The staff were nice but the amenities were really old and really smelly. There are also a lot of permanents living here and in our experience this can impact the whole vibe and look of a park. However the park I right at the new Jetty so position brilliant.

Jayne rates this park 5/10 Whimsys...just.

Riverview Tourist Park, Margaret River

This park is an 800 mtr walk into Margaret River CBD. Top position. Only a few powered sites though  as the park focuses on cabin accommodation. However they are really well set up sites with new plug in points and neat concrete slabs. There is also a beautiful camp kitchen down by the river. Lovely.

The amenities were crap, old and not well ventilated with a few little visitors that I would rather have not shared the shower with. Leeches are not my favourite being and I thought for a minute I was hallucinating  when the grout in my shower began to move!!! But no, it was a big fat leech!! Outa there in a flash!!!

Apart from the extra terrestrials this spot was fine and really convenient. Staff were ok and fairly helpful once they got their sh.. together.

We rate this park 7/10 Whimsys

Albany Gardens, Albany

Yeah right. Somewhat like Ashphalt Gardens in Melbourne.... the gardens are hard to find. However, there was grass, which is a bonus on this trip.

The park was advertised as 1.5 klms from Albany CBD. That was also an exaggeration. Jayne and I can walk 1.5 klms in just over 10 mins this walk took us 30mins. Not sure how they measure distance in Albany?

Staff were ok but not great. Amenities were ok - just - but not cleaned enough given the busy weekend.

we rate this park 5.5/10 Whimsys

Esperance Seafront Caravan Park

We love this spot.

This park, in our opinion is the best in Esperance.

We now make it a mission to check them all out, drive around where we want to stay, before we decide to pay the money. We also don't always lock in re how long we want to stay. The problem can be that there is no refund if you decide to move on early. So we say that we'll definitely stay two nights (if that's how long we will definitely stay) then ask for options to stay longer if we choose. It works out best for us and most parks are ok with that....some get a bit antsy but too bad.

The staff are ok? Not brilliant. The park although on a main road overlooks Esperance Bay and its beautiful. We had site 8 right on the corner and we thought it may be noisy. Its not at night which for us is the important thing and to be honest because of its grassy position right out front with views its great. I'd book this spot, site ,  if ever we came back.

Its a very tree laden park with some grass sites. Its pretty.

The amenities need to be bulldozed! But they are clean.

Its a 2.5 klm walk into town but what a stunning walk. Jayne and I do it most days and love it. Will talk more about the town in the main blog.

We would return here in a heartbeat. Stunning.

We rate this park 8/10 Whimsys even with crappy amenities

Eucla, Motor Hotel and Caravan Park

Well, this was a fairly amazing place. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, there are motel rooms and a huge caravan park overlooking the plains and the ocean.

The park sits on the escarpment so the view is spectacular.

The stars at night - because there a only a few lights around- really do blow you away.

We really enjoyed this stopover in the middle of The Nullarbor, it was a very enjoyable experience. We hadn't planned to stay here and we had taken some pretty ordinary advice as to where to stay on The Nullarbor. When we checked these spots out we just went NO WAY Jose!

So we just kept driving and checking the map for parks. That's how we came across this park. But I have to say for anyone crossing the Nullarbor, after checking quite a few out, this is really terrific. Cheap as chips and you pay $1 for a 5 min shower - who cares?

See gallery.

Because of the position (thank you Eucla) this will be rated well

We rate this park 8/10 Whimsy's because it is a real gem amongst quite a few duds.

Ceduna, Foreshore Caravan Park

This park is in a top spot. On the water, next to a pub and the shops and its a straight run onto the road to the Nullarbor. Facilities are ok but are being renovated over next few weeks we believe, so that will be great.

The Managers, a young husband and wife team, are very helpful and friendly, so great customer service really. They fitted us in though we hadn't booked.

The camp kitchen is great, huge as a matter of fact. We sometimes use the camp kitchens just for fun and to get out of the motorhome. If they are clean and well equipped its a real bonus. This was.

The groundcover is dirt/gravel so in a strong wind it can be very very dusty but all in a nice park. We would recommend it as probably the best in Ceduna - given position.

We rate it 7/10 Whimsy's

Waterloo Bay Caravan Park, Elliston

This is a lovely grassy, small, quiet park with a short walkway over the dunes to Waterloo Bay. The little township of Elliston is half a block away and has everything you need.

The amenities are old but clean. The staff are friendly enough and live onsite. Serious touring caravanners here. No permanents.

We would recommend it, but really there is NO competition!

We rate this park 7.5/10 Whimsy's

Port Lincoln Tourist Park

We stayed on both the camping area and on a powered site here. Both were on grass (well not really, more like dust) After Easter we were offered a cement slab site but although nice and flat and clean they are at the back of the park away from the water. They were also higher up and with the winds the strength they were we decided against it. We stayed on the grass site with views of the bay.

The amenities were ok, staff ordinary, position brilliant in relation to the bay but it is 4 klms out of town so its a long walk if you don't have a car. This is NOT explained in the parks advertising. Its an important consideration in our opinion.

The sites really need to be upgraded and the parks roadways are horrendous.

We rate this park 6.5/10 Whimsys.

Port Vincent Foreshore Caravan Park

Top spot. Right in Port Vincent and actually on the foreshore. Amenities are good and very clean.

The park is not too big and the sites are grassy and a good size.

Service was ok but not brilliant.

The position is excellent with easy access (1 minute) to the town centre, with a pub, IGA, café and gift shop.

Terrific coastal walks in easy reach and lots of wildlife to be seen.

Jayne and I liked the park and loved Port Vincent but Robe still takes the cake.

We rate this park 7/10 Whimsys

Big 4, Adelaide Shores

This is a HUGE park on West Beach near Glenelg, Adelaide SA.

It is well maintained though we had a few plumbing issues - well we didn't personally, but our ensuite did - but they were attended to promptly.

The sites are large and both paved and grassed which is a treat given the state of SA. SA is in a dreadful drought and is tinder dry or many of the parks sites are merely dust.

It was a bit of a hike to get to Glenelg but there is a bus service to Glenelg or into Adelaide.

The park has a terrific Kiosk which also has some grocery items in an emergency. The Kiosk is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

It is right on West Beach so the views are lovely. The wind can be a problem though because the roaring 40's rip through here.........a lot.

We rate it 7/10 Whimsys

Sea Vu Carvan Park, Robe

This park is in the best position, has helpful staff, clean amenities, is close to the village with two pubs, cafes, a club, shops etc etc. Its a lovely walk to the village either along the beach or via the road. Both take 5 minutes tops.

What else can I say??

We had booked into the Big 4 in Robe - site unseen - and when we arrived it was another one of those 'not on your Nelly' moments for both Jayne and I, so we cruised around to all the parks (3 in total) and chose this one for its position. Yes it was windy the first night but you take the bad with the good to get this sort of position we think.

We rate this park 8.5/10 (best in show so far)
